Keepin Busy

Well, now that Lost has concluded its 3rd season, what are we supposed to do until FEBRUARY? Yes, Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse announced a couple weeks ago that Season 4 would start in February 2008 and run 16 episodes in its next season; ok, now what? Theres nothing to look forward to for the next approximately 35 Wednesdays, right? WRONG actually. I will be periodically recapping and rehashing every significant theory and mystery on Lost that has been unanswered. This way, we will be able to rehash some of the old theories and mysteries that haven't been revealed yet, and kill some time until season 4. Tell me what you think, and comment on what else we should do to keep busy.

Lost Season Finale: Sci-Fi Fact vs. Fiction

Lost's third season ender may have left you with more questions than answers. But as experienced in debunking as we are here at Popular Mechanics, the ABC drama's theories of time travel, alternate universes, smoke monsters and invisible men are pure science fiction. What we can offer is a reality check: Writer, filmmaker, military adventurer and former dynamite wrangler Robert Young Pelton weighs in on the good, the bad and the fake from Wednesday's mind-bending finale. (If you have not seen the two-hour episode, stop reading now!)

1. Is it possible to ignite dynamite with a gunshot?

The Others vs. the Castaways battle on the beach began with a bang-literally. The clever beach dwellers set up piles of dynamite and, when the Others launched their attack, used rifles to detonate the sticks. That much holds up to Pelton's expertise, but it might not be as impressive as the Lost creators would have us believe. "Dynamite in an open space is not that impressive," he says, "and the blast would probably scatter the pile before it detonates it all." And that's not the only falsity: Pelton doubts that product from the 1800s would even explode. "The outside wrapper would be paper and the powder would dissolve [in water]," he says. Maybe the island's mysterious powers of healing work on dynamite as well.

2. Would a grenade really work under water?

Never mind his nine lives: It was one-eyed Other Mikhail's grenade assault on the Looking Glass communications station-and rockstar Charlie's subsequent drowning because of it-that had us talking. But it's probably not plausible, says Pelton. "Grenades would have a much diminished effect in water compared to air," he says. The two products of a grenade detonation, shrapnel and blast, could both break a window. However, according to Pelton, most underwater windows are made of thick plexiglass that tends to be the strongest part of a sealed vessel. But, because Mikhail was so close to the blast - putting his lungs and internal organs at risk - maybe he's finally made his way to the big hatch in the sky.

3. Can you really break someone's neck with your legs?

It was hard to believe that Iraqi interrogator Sayid allowed himself to get captured, but he redeemed himself when he tripped an Other and, hands tied behind his back, broke the man's neck with his legs. Pelton says the move is definitely possible: "It's taught in combatives, but obviously difficult to do." Still, as we've seen in the show's first three seasons, there's not much Sayid can't do. Except maybe control his temper.

4. Would Rousseau's radio transmission really have blocked the sat phone's signal?

Once Charlie turned off the Looking Glass hatch's signal-jamming devices, the Losties still had one more obstacle to overcome before they could make the call that would get them rescued: Rousseau's distress message, broadcasting for 16 years from the island's radio tower. But that, says Pelton, is impossible. "Sat signals are only blocked by jamming devices or solid objects that block the line of sight to the satellite," he says. "Radio signals would have no effect."

Feed Your Head - Through the Looking Glass recap by Fish Biscuit

FIN
Feed Your Head from DarkUfo & Fish Biscuit

Post Finale Interviews w/ Damon Lindelof & Dominic Monaghan

Kristin, from E! Online, has posted two post show interviews, one with Lost co-creator and executive producer Damon Lindelof, and the other with Dominic Monaghan related to the fate of Charlie.

Both of these are good reads and the Lindelof interview is especially interesting given that he and Carlton Cuse are going into a self-induced radio silence moving into Season 4, primarily because of the sheer volume of spoilers that were leaked associated with the finale for Season 3. I, for one, find that encouraging for the remainder of the series, even if it means leaving us to relentlessly speculate.

  • How are you dealing with the Spoilergate aftermath?
Well, with regard to season four, Carlton and I are going into complete and utter radio silence. I know a lot of people are going to be frustrated, but I think if things had gone a little differently in terms of the finale getting spoiled, we might have been a little more open to talking about it.

Through The Looking Glass (PROMO)

The Looking Glass Hatch

I was taking a look at the above Easter Egg from Greatest Hits, thanks to our friends at the Tailsection, and though many people are focusing on the “white rabbit logo” what you will also notice is that it says “Moon Pool” Submarine Port. By literal definition, a “Moon Pool” is “a feature of some research vessels and undersea platforms. A room, with an airtight door, will have an open floor that extends right through the bottom of the hull.” However, The Moon Pool is also a book by A. Merritt with a description below:
“Set on the island of Ponape, full of ruins from ancient civilizations, the novel chronicles the adventures of a party of explorers who discover a previously unknown underground world full of strange peoples and super-scientific wonders. From the depths of this world, the party unwittingly unleashes the Dweller, a monstrous terror that threatens the islands of the South Pacific. Although Merritt did not invent the lost world novel, following in the footsteps of Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Burroughs and others, he greatly elaborated upon that tradition.”

Makes you wonder about next week’s episode and the implications this may have for that particular hatch itself.

Lost 3x18 Promo - "D.O.C."

Insider Info on Dharma Episode…

Tailsection has received some awesome info regarding the Dharma epiosde and I thought I would post it here…so if you want to read it make the jump.

Finally, the planets have aligned properly and I can now release a few tidbits of info about LOST 3.20 that up until now I have been sworn to secrecy over. Read on for the sordid details.
There is a funny thing about running this type of site. You get extremely credible information given on a “Don’t repeat this” basis, and you get lots of not so credible information on a “please publish this” basis. Naturally, the ‘off the record’ stuff usually turns out to be true. My policy has always been, when you say ‘off the record’ it stays off the record, unless another source corroborates. I have to walk a fine line between scoundrel and friend in a situation like that because if I don’t snatch it, it is just going to go to another site the next day. (Sometimes even the same day.) As a result I’ve let a lot of off the record stuff remain off the record even though other sources have come through, merely out of respect for the first source.
So here is information that was hinted to me by credible sources, circulated as rumors, and then finally given to me straight up this morning by a source totally willing to have the info published. If this offends anyone who has given me info on the sly in the past, I apologize, but if I don’t go forward with it, somebody else will.
Veracity scale from 1-10, with 10 being most definitely true, I give this info an 8. I’m not publishing it word for word so you have to add a margin of error for my interpretation.

1 - We will see Ben and several ‘others’ in Dharma Jumpsuits, but they are not scientists. (Ben MAY not even be ‘Ben’)
2 - The episode will bring new meaning to the term ‘Born on the island’.
3 - The formation of ‘the others’ is counter-intuitive. Those seeking breakthroughs on the island (the scientists, etc) are the ones seen as impure, the guys who sweep the floors are seen as ‘fit’.
4 - Marvin Candle’s arm loss will be explained, graphically.

"One of Us Promo" US Promo for next week's LOST S3E16

Interview with Evangeline

There is a little interview with Evangeline Lilly over at Esquire. Besides talking about the possibility of playing Wonder Woman, Evie talks a bit about her life and answers a few questions about Lost:

  • ESQ: The show isn’t afraid to kill off major characters. Worried you might be next?

  • Evangeline: I feel like where they’ve taken the story, I don’t think they’re finished with Kate yet.

  • ESQ: You realize you just painted a target on your forehead.

  • Evangeline: I know! No one’s above it. Got that? Nobody. [Laughs.]

  • ESQ: So I’m told that the series will end with a scientist informing the survivors that they’re part of a government experiment.

  • Evangeline: I don’t think so.

  • ESQ: Wait, you’re saying the Internet is wrong?

  • Evangeline: I think that would be so unfair to our viewers. They’ve invested in this idea, and to cop out and make it something as stupid and simple as we’re all dead in purgatory or something, I think I’d get up and kick a hole through my television I’d be so pissed off.

  • ESQ: Admit it, the writers have no idea where this thing is going.

  • Evangeline: They do! I remember when we were filming the pilot, [cocreator] J.J. Abrams was talking about the idea of a hatch. They told us they had roughly mapped out the first six seasons.

Lost set visit video

The Man from Tallahassee

Lost has really been gearing up lately, delivering great episodes each week. I don’t know when I was this excited to see an upcoming episode… alright, it was last week, but with the ending of last week’s Lost episode “Par Avion” things are really starting to get interesting.

Kate, Locke, Sayid and Rousseau have traveled to “The Barracks” to save Jack and Rousseau’s kidnapped daughter Alex. But apparently Jack has been better off than they thought, because in the last shot of last week’s Lost episode, he was smiling and playing football with The Others.
In tonight’s Locke centric Lost Season 3 episode, we will find out why Jack is in such a good mood.

This is ABC’s official description of “The Man from Tallahassee“:
  • “The Man from Tallahassee” - Ben tries to persuade a determined Locke to call off his destructive plan by offering him some of the secrets of the island, and Kate’s reunion with Jack does not go off as planned when she discovers that he has made a deal with “The Others,” on “Lost,” WEDNESDAY, MARCH 21 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Lost has been picked up for Season 4

ABC today announced that they will produce and air a fourth season of Lost.

  • ABC Television Network today announced fourteen early pick-ups for the 2007-08 season for new breakout series “Brothers & Sisters,” “MEN IN TREES” and “Ugly Betty,” as well as returning hits “The Bachelor,” “Boston Legal,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Lost.” The announcement was made by ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson at the March Development Meeting in Los Angeles. These series join previously announced “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “Supernanny” and “Wife Swap,” which have also been renewed for the 2007-08 season.
I don’t think this really comes as a surprise to anyone, even if there has been speculation in the press about Lost being canceled. In my mind Lost is getting better and better so it’s great to hear that we will see our island friends for at least another season.

Lost - Par Avion - CDN Trailer rus LOST-ABC.ru

Rodrigo Santoro talks about LOST

Rodrigo Santoro
The Brazilian waxes poetic when he talks about his new role in "Lost." "I have to make a tiny confession. I wasn't exactly and completely following the show before I got the role. I was busy. So, I was lost when I got 'Lost!' " cries Rodrigo Santoro, the superstar from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Santoro is already steely when it comes to divulging plot secrets from his hit ABC series (9 p.m. Wednesday, WLS-Channel 7). "What I can say to you is the audience is about to know a lot more about my character," he says at an interview at the Beverly Hilton.
Q: What do you make of the phenomenon of "Lost"?
A: I knew about "Lost" in Brazil. It was big, not just in the states but all around the world. Everywhere I go, people know me and then they ask me about what will happen on the next episodes. I tell them that they really don't want to know because it would spoil it.
Q: Are you being careful while living in Hawaii filming "Lost"? There seems to be a curse in that many "Lost" actors have found themselves caught up by the law.
A: I'm very easy and I have the healthiest lifestyle. I surf, do yoga and then work. That's basically my entire day.
Q: How long are you committed to "Lost"?
A: Ha ha. You know I can't say. I don't know how long I will be there, but you can't control things. You can just build a character. I don't prepare too much because who knows what will happen with this show.
Q: Describe your life these days.
A: I'm back and forth between Hawaii and Brazil. It's just such a good time for my career. It's not about being huge. It's about working with the actors and directors I've always admired. It's been a long journey and, thank God, a very gratifying one.

Lost - Episode 12 Season 3 - Par Avion

Before we get to the fun stuff, I want to say that I’m sorry for the lack of updates during the last few days. A pretty bad fever has forced me to stay in bed. I’m starting to feel a bit better, but don’t be surprised if you don’t see me around for a few more days. With that said I’m not going to let a fever, or anything else for that matter, stop me from publishing the “episode post”!
"Enter 77"
Last week’s Lost episode “Tricia Tanaka is Dead” was an entertaining break from the recent darker episodes. This week’s Sayid centric Lost promises more action and adventure as Locke, Kate and Sayid continue on their mission to save Jack from The Others.

LOST EPISODE 11 - 3x11 Pics

LOST EPISODE 11 - 3x11 ABC ENTER 77 PROMO!

Poor Roger…

Here is the Recap for episode 10, Tricia Tanaka is Dead. This episode was rather good and was better than last weeks definitely. To read the recap, click more…
This episode was Hurley centric, and I think everyone recognised him as a kid in the opening flashback. A boy with curly hair fixing a motorcar with his father. He gives up on it, saying it needs a carburettor to start. His father tells him that all he needs is hope. They are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, but his father said he needs to go to Texas for work. He leaves on a Motorbike.
Kate and Sawyer are walking through the jungle. Kate believes that the beach is only a five minute walk away, Sawyer jokes at her not being excited. She says it’s because she isn’t looking forward to explaining why Jack isn’t there. They argue a bit, Sawyer refuses to apologise for things he has done saying that he has nothing to apologise for. They walk off. Meanwhile, on the beach, Hurley is talking to Charlie. Charlie is down after he heard about his impending doom, and Hurley doesn’t deny that he won’t die. He believes that it is his fault, as the numbers cursed him. Suddenly, Vincent comes out of the jungle, holding in his teeth a human hand. It’s got a key on the end. He runs off again, and Hurley goes after him. Charlie does not follow. Hurley runs into the jungle after the Labrador. Vincent drops the arm, and runs away. Hurley grabs the key and walks along the grass, and he finds a camper van.

LOST S3E10 - Tricia Tanaka is Dead

Jorge Garcia talks about Lost

Jorge Garcia, who plays Hurley on Lost was recently interviewed by The New York Post. This week’s Lost season 3 episode “Tricia Tanaka is Dead” is briefly discussed, and Jorge talks about his view on Lost’s decline in ratings:
“Of course, we talk about the ratings on the set, but when they change something on this show, they change a lot of things. So it’s not like we can point to one thing and say this isn’t working, but I rest assured in knowing that my job on this show is just a portion of the whole. I’m not in charge of anything else and I’m not worried about it.”
The interview also contains a small revelation:
“When we first came on, we were instructed to say that we knew where it was all going, but as it kept going, we were allowed to say that we have no idea. I think about a dozen people actually know.”

Josh Holloway Interview

Here is a short video interview with Lost’s Sawyer - Josh Holloway:

Flashes Before Your Eyes

new Lost episode titled “Flashes Before Your Eyes” takes us back to our Lost friends on the beach. Will Kate and Sawyer make it back to the main island? What has been going on while we’ve observed the events on “Alcatraz” island? Can Desmond predict the future?

Tonight’s Desmond-centric episode might answer a few questions related to his past and his newfound precognitive abilities.

Desmond has become one of my favorite characters and I think he plays a vital part in the larger Lost story so I’m very excited about this episode.

Lost Season 3 Video Interviews

Lost Season 3 continues with the episode “Not in Portland”. We have waited for three months and anticipation is high. In this exciting video, the actors of Lost talk about what’s going on with their characters and what we can expect from the upcoming episodes.

Since the next two episodes “Not in Portland” and “Flashes Before Your Eyes” are discussed, there are a couple of spoilers in the video, particularly from Dominic Monaghan. As you know, I don’t like spoilers, but I found the video to be quite enjoyable even though some things were revealed.

The Land of Lost Time

It was right before my eyes and I didn’t see it!

When Dr.Richard Alpert was trying to convince Juliet to come work for Mittelos Bioscience he showed her MRI scans of a womb. After quickly examining the scans, Juliet says it’s a human womb and judging from the decomposition of the endometrium it’s probably from a woman somewhere in her 70s. To our surprise, Dr. Alpert reveals that the woman is only 26.

When Juliet asks what happened to the woman, Dr.Alpert replies by asking her if she would be interested in having complete freedom and money to find out.

The stars of Lost give some insight on life in Hawaii

Matthew Fox
"It's beautiful here. I've always loved Hawaii and I've been travelling here for a lot of years on vacation. My wife and I have always sort of joked about me getting a gig that would bring us here for an extended period of time - and here we are! The kids are incredibly happy and we are all very excited to be here. "I'm surfing a little bit again. I surfed in Southern California for a few years but I gave it up because the water is so cold! Obviously, it's reinvigorated my desire to get back into surfing here. I bought my boards over and I try to get my kids involved! "As for shooting the show, every day is a new challenge. You've got rain, magnificent sunsets, lightning storms - the list just goes on and on. Working in a really natural environment as beautiful and majestic as Hawaii is amazing."
Jorge Garcia
"When I moved to Hawaii , I moved next to a woman who is now my girlfriend now, so that definitely makes it feel like home. We have a cat and a dog. I like to go swimming and go to the beach a lot although pictures of me have started showing up in magazines when I go.

"I did a charity event last summer that was a salute to the troops and they sent me one of the poker tables that was used, so I have a really nice red felt poker table. I bought these really cool cup holders you see at casinos that slide between the armrest and the felt. I have people over to play but the thing I really want is something I can't buy - this nice casino style shuffler made by Shufflemaster. It is available for sale to the public but it is such a ridiculous amount of money that if you bought such an item, it would be an embarrassment! In poker, the guy you have to watch now is Daniel Dae Kim - because he's been improving his game, You can tell from where we started, and where we are now that he's been studying. He has improved his game a lot. I started to go back and re-learn poker basics just to be a little more serious when I'm playing against him. Josh Holloway is also a tough poker player because he'll go with any two cards and sometimes he has good cards and sometimes he doesn't. You can never tell where he is at!"

Lost is the number one recorded show

According to New York Daily News, Lost is so important to the viewers that more people store it on their TiVo or other digital video recorders than any other prime-time series.

More than 1.5 million people record the ABC series for later viewing on their TiVos or other digital recording devices each week, a practice known since the heyday of the VCR as time-shifting. In the new statistics, that figure is counted along with the number of people watching live in Nielsen’s survey.
Closely following Lost is the other Touchstone hit - “Gray’s Anatomy” and Lost’s unofficial buddy-series “Heroes” on NBC.
I’m certainly not surprised. Many fans find it easier and more enjoyable to watch series like Lost and Heroes on their own schedule, and with the amount of complexity and mysteries, I know that many Lost fans watch the episodes two or three times; either just for fun or to analyze the events and look for clues.
I usually watch Lost twice. First when it airs, and then once more the next day; first of all because I enjoy the show, but also to be inspired and reminded of the important events in the episode so I’ll stay on top of the discussions and come up with interesting things to write about.
How do you watch Lost?

ABC posts new Lost podcast

ABC has posted a new Lost video podcast that contains cast interviews, behind the scenes footage, and previews for upcoming episodes. The podcast is a bit spoilerish, so people wishing to watch the show with fresh eyes should steer clear. Clips from "Not in Portland" are included, as are interviews with Michael Emerson, Henry Ian Cusick, Josh Holloway, Daniel Dae Kim, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Dominic Monoghan. They had me at Michael Emerson. Those wishing to download the podcast can do so at iTunes.

'Lost' Creators: We Know Where We're Going

The producers of "Lost" are looking to set a precise end-date for ABC's Emmy-winning thriller, which some critics say has lost its way this season.

A time line would help the show's creative team plot out the final story arcs of the marooned plane-crash survivors, executive producer Carlton Cuse told reporters Sunday.

"It's time for us now to find an end point for this show," Cuse said during ABC's portion of the Television Critics Assn. winter press tour in Pasadena. "It's always been discussed that the show would have a beginning, middle and end."

Cuse, who executive produces with Damon Lindelof, said there seemed to be "an underlying anxiety (among fans) that ... we don't know what we're doing."

He noted that "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has said her series will end after the next book, "which gives everybody a sort of feeling of certainty that that story is driving toward a conclusion."

Some critics have blasted ABC's decision to launch the third season of "Lost" in the fall for seven weeks and then rest it for four months. It returns to ABC's schedule next month. ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson said they might be right, and next year he wants to go the route Fox does with "24," running all 20-something episodes consecutively with no repeats.

The success of "Lost" in its 2004 debut led the way for a parade of heavily serialized dramas. Like clockwork, the major networks dived head-first into serial territory this past season -- but with few successes. ABC misfired this fall with two cliffhanger-driven shows, "The Nine" and "Daybreak."

"The shows were incredibly well-produced," McPherson said. "We loved the shows creatively . . . It may have just been the timing."

He said both "Nine" and the poorly-rated freshman drama "Six Degrees" still have a chance to return to the schedule this spring despite being pulled. "Degrees," in fact, is in production to finish out its original 13-episode order.

In fact, many of ABC's rookie series have struggled to find their footing. That includes the comedy "The Knights of Prosperity," a half-hour built around the antics of an oddball group of New Yorkers who set their sights on robbing Mick Jagger. But McPherson said he was committed to comedy.

"The great thing is that people are taking chances," he said. "I mean, for us, taking chances is what redefined us ... We hope we can get a bigger audience for (comedies). But I also don't think that the sitcom is dead ... I believe that comedy is due to kind of explode."

Season 2

Michael was the first to realize and mention that the hatch, or Swan Station, was equipped throughout with Blast Doors, which could seal off sections of the station during a lockdown of sorts. The purpose of these lockdowns are still unknown, but it was during one of these that Locke’s legs were smashed, trapping him under one of these blast doors. A black light came on revealing a large, hand-drawn map in front of Locke, covering the entire blast door. It was later revealed through Desmond’s flashback that Kelvin Inman was adding details to this map after leaving the Swan Station on short expeditions out to the island. He was using liquid detergent to draw the map so that it would only be visible under a black light, which it didn’t appear that he could use while drawing it. According to Kelvin, a man named Radzinski learned how to manually trip the blast doors, and started the map. Both Kelvin Inman, and the mysterious Radzinski were members of the DHARMA Initiative.
